How Interfaith Leadership Can Help Us Move Forward

This is an excellent article about Interfaith Leadership. The idea is to engage those who have opposing beliefs, and actively to search for concerns we share.

To me this sentiment (quoted from the article) is the key: “[W]e have to recognize that people can disagree on some fundamental or ultimate concerns, and work together on others.”

A key requirement is, initially, to ignore any beliefs with which we disagree.

Yes, ignore.

We may even need to ignore hurtful things said about us or those we care about. (Read the article for an outstanding example of what this looks like.)

Doubtless, ignoring some comments will be incredibly difficult. But I believe developing relationships with people of different beliefs is our only chance of moving forward. And, who knows? Once they get to know us, we may even change their minds.
